What staff can do in the app

Staff sign in with the same details they use on the website. From the app they can:

  • See their upcoming shifts and tap one for the details
  • Set their availability for each day
  • Accept or decline new shifts, or show interest in one
  • Send a time off request
  • Read memos and reply to them
  • Chat with the team, or message a manager privately
  • Call, text or email a colleague from their profile

Managers choose whether staff see the whole schedule or only their own shifts.

Notifications and reminders

The app notifies you on your iPhone when one of your shifts changes, and reminds you before each shift starts. New memos and chat messages can notify you too.

Choose which notifications you get under Settings, in the app's menu.

Your shifts in Apple Calendar

Subscribe to your personal shift feed in Apple Calendar, and your shifts appear alongside your other appointments on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. The feed updates as the schedule changes, and the link is private to you.

How calendar feeds work

For managers away from the desk

Managers use the same app, with extra controls for the changes that can't wait until they're back at a computer:

  • Add a shift, with breaks, a title and notes
  • Assign staff, clients and resources, or take them off a shift
  • Confirm draft shifts, or copy a whole day of shifts
  • Add time off and sick leave
  • Add a new employee, take their photo with the phone's camera and send them an invitation

Building a new schedule from scratch is easier on a bigger screen at shiftapp.com. Anything a manager changes in the app shows there straight away, because both use the same schedule.
